How Online OCR Works Natively in the Browser
OCR (Optical Character Recognition) is a technology that allows computers to recognize text characters inside images. Traditionally, online OCR sites require you to upload your sensitive contracts, receipts, and book screenshots to their remote servers to process the document layouts.
Secure and Serverless Extraction
TinyImagefy uses a highly optimized WebAssembly (WASM) build of the popular Tesseract OCR engine. When you select an image, our script loads the language parameters locally and runs the recognition algorithm directly inside your browser memory. This means your personal scans and confidential spreadsheets never travel over the network, providing complete data security.
Best Practices for Better Accuracy
- High Contrast: Ensure text is dark and the background is light (or vice versa) for clean character thresholding.
- Proper Orientation: Recognition works best when text is rotated horizontally and is not tilted or upside down.
- Resolution: Scan text at standard DPI settings (150-300 DPI) to prevent blurry edges from throwing off character recognition loops.
